Old Boy doing rather well - Rob Phillips

Following his 200m (24.1) at the recent Avon Schools championships he has been selected for 200m & relay by Avon for next months BU15 English Schools Championships (Birmingham). Recently Rob competed for Avon in the South West Schools Combined Events (Pentathlon) Championships at Millfield. Although this was a new event for him he managed to finish 3rd (19 competitors) earning automatic selection for the English Schools Combined Events Finals that are being held in Stoke during September. The 5 events were 80 hurdles, Shot, Long Jump, High Jump and 800m. Rob is strong in 3 events, not bad in high jump but needs to learn shot as it cost him 2nd place on the day.

Well done Rob from all your old coaches.

Prevention / relief from running stitches

Simple remedies to releive the good old STITCH
  • When running contract your stomach muscles
  • “Belly breathe” so that your belly rises and falls, stabilising your stomach
  • Press the point of pain with your hand and bend slightly forward
  • Don’t pound when running downhill
  • Leave an appropriate period between eating/drinking and running
  • During training or racing, if you must drink, take small amounts regularly, rather than one large quantity.
