Chairman Gordon Robbins and vice-chairman Bob Sperring have both stepped down from their positions on the committee, hence the reason you have seen various committee members doing the announcements over the last couple of weeks.

Following this, the committee has decided to elect an interim Chairman (Bill Graham) and Vice Chairman (James Wade) until the next AGM. Which will take place at the club on Thursday 4th September 2008.

In anticipation of the member’s full support, the committee would like to thank everybody for their patience and understanding during this interim period.

May we also take this opportunity, on behalf of the committee and the membership, to thank both Gordon and Bob for all their hard work and commitment over the past years. It is with great appreciation that we recognise how both have contributed to the evolution of Bitton Road Runners from a small collection of like minded friends to all that it represents today. A new section has been added to this website, one for articles written by members. There are currently two published articles and more will no doubt be added shortly. The idea behind this section is to give club members a voice on their website.

The content of the articles is wide open, although obviously related in some way to running. If you want to write a report about an event you've been to; a race you've ran; a short piece about something your care passionately about; or even dole out some advice that you think people should hear, then send it in. All content will need to be checked, moderated, and possibly edited by myself before being published.

If you would like to submit an article for publication then simply email it to articles@bittonroadrunners.co.uk.

All articles can be found at http://www.bittonroadrunners.co.uk/articles/ or simply via the menu on the left. [Edited by Ira on 06/05/2008]

Some changes have been made to the 2007/08 race of eight series. Previously the last race of the season was planned to be the Chippenham Half Marathon on Sunday 14th September. This has now been changed, mostly as it fell outside of the season cutoff date of 31st August.

If you have already entered this race, don't worry as it will now be the first race in the 2008/09 series.

Two races have been selected as an alternative, The Conkwell Killer and the Oldbury-on-Severn 10 Mile Road Race. Details for both races are before, and in the events diary.

One further change is that all Bitton 5KM races are now race of eight eligible, rather than just the June race. After each race the times for all club members will be amalgamated taking the best time for each runner from one race. This will form a final set of results from which the scores will be based.

The complete list of events are as follows:

Oldbury-on-Severn 10M 10 Miles Sun 7 October 2007
Wyvern Christmas Cracker 10 KM Sun 9 December 2007

At the recent EGM it was agreed every member would pay the £5 membership to UKA/EA, irrespective as to whether the members is competing in races or not.

Therefore the membership fee for the year 2007 /2008 should have been £13. (not £11)

The membership for 2008 /2009 will be £13 (subject to AGM in September) but we may have to levy an additional charge to alow for the underpayment in this membership year. [Posted by Ira on 15/04/2008]

Following another successful year with the Sodbury Slog the club once again donated a bumper cheque to charity, this year to the tune of £2200 which will be going to BRACE, through the Rotary Club of Chipping Sodbury.

As well as the money donated by the club to charity, the race also helped raise £2100 for Macmillan Cancer Care through the bond places supplied to them, and Alan Chappell also raised over £100 for charity through the sale of poppies on race day. Well done to everyone who helped make this happen. [Edited by Ira on 10/03/2008]
