British Sign Language

Are you interested in learning British Sign Language? Taster sessions are available!
The course will include: everyday conversation, roleplay of how to have a conversation with a deaf person to drive a car.If you learn Sign Language you will be able to easily communicate with deaf people.
I was born profoundly deaf, British Sign Language is my first language. I have over 15 years experience of teaching sign language and I have worked as a lecturer at Bristol University teaching sign languagd on the Deaf Studies degree. I now work as a freelance teacher.
In 2003 the British government recognised British Sign Language as Britain's 4th language.

Stephanies Cake Sale for Above & Beyond

Stephanie and Neil would like to thank all those who contributed to the cake sale at the clubhouse last week. In total £75 was raised for the Bristol Above and Beyond Charity. Stephanie's Bupa London 10K run is on 27th May. If you missed out on the cake sale you can still sponsor Steph by donating at her justgiving site. 

Terry the Torchbearer

Bitton Road Runners very own Terry Kirby has the honour of being an Olympic Torchbearer on Tuesday 22nd May. Terry is due to collect the flame at the Bath end of Bitton (just West of Brewery Hill) at 17:00. He will then proceed 300m along the road passing it to the next torchbearer at Church Road, Bitton. A map of the route can be found here. Enjoy your day Terry!

Cotswold Way Relay Saturday 30th June

Once again BRR will be entering teams for the CWR, so if you're interested in taking part in this 1 day, 10 stage, team event then, please, add your name to the lists on the noticeboard at the Club. If there's a specific stage that you'd like to run then ensure that you put that down too.
The sooner we can figure out who will be running which stage then the sooner people can organise recceing jaunts...

Sodbury Slog Entries Open

Entries for the Sodbury Slog 2012 are now open online and going fast. This year's event is on Sunday 11th November. To enter online visit the event website at: http://www.sodburyslog.co.uk.

Membership Fees

A reminder to any members who have not yet renewed their Bitton membership fees for the 2012/13 club year that they are now due. If your membership is not recieved by Joan by the 31st May you will not be eligible for any of the club championship rankings or Race of Eight competition.

Frenchay 10K

Due to marshalling issues on the day a handful of runners accidentally ran a short course and did not complete the required 10K. Because of this the results from this race will be ineligible for any club competitions or records. A replacement race for the Race of Eight will be choosen to replace it.

Committee Vacancies

Members of Bitton Road Runners,

There are currently two vacancies for positions on the club management committee.

Vice Chair
The role is to assist the Club Chair with the organisation and running of the Club. To chair committee meetings in the absence of the Club Chair. To deputise for the Club chair if he/she is not available due to other commitments.

Secretary
To receive communications via email or post and distribute the information to the members of the committee. To prepare letters when necessary in response. To take the minutes at the committee meeting and prepare and circulate them to the committee members.

Family Sports Day

The annual junior and senior club sports family sports day is scheduled to take place at YOSC on Sunday 27th May, from noon onwards. This is always a fun day and a great opportunity for both sides of the club to interact and take part in a fun day of athletics.

AGM Awards

Congratulations to Terry Kirby who has been recognised for his contribution at the club with the Club Person of the Year trophy at this years AGM. The Kevin Rose trophy, for the runner who has shown most improvement over the last year, was awarded to Jake Hayes.

Welsh Castles Relay

On the notice board at clubhouse there is a joint ladies & men’s list up for people who are interested (or would like to know more) in taking part in the Welsh Castles relay.

Bristol 10K Discounted Entries

Bristol 10K, which is on 20th May 2012, are offering a discount to Bitton runners. Anyone interested please pass a cheque for £13.65 (Bitton Road Runners) or cold hard cash to Gordon Robbins.

The process that then follows is:-
1) Gordon collects a list of members (names) wishing to take advantage of the discount.
2) Gordon sends the list plus a cheque for the total amount to FR Systems.
3) FR systems email a list of promotional codes, allocated to the named people on the list, to Gordon.
4) Gordon passes out the codes.
5) Member enters on-line using the code.
